The Spaid Crystals Story

All of us share an appreciation of crystals.

A second-generation Colorado native, I became fascinated by rocks while backpacking with my family when I was about 7 years old. I remember asking my father questions during a family hike through The Crags about the rock formations I saw and about each of the different rocks I picked up. An exceptionally gifted elementary school teacher, my father answered each question I had in a way any very young person could easily understand.

When I was in my teens, I hunted for Smoky Quartz at nearly 14,000 feet above sea level on Pikes Peak, for Amazonite near the base of Cheyenne Mountain, and for Topaz near Lake George. Both my father and mother continued to encourage my interest in and passion for the natural sciences, and I eventually obtained a B.A. in Geology with an emphasis in mineral chemistry from CU Boulder.

With my newly earned science degree, my goal was to do my part to rid the world of the dangers of radionuclides that emanate from the stored waste products generated by fission reactors. Clinoptilolite, a very common zeolite mineral, has shown huge promise in helping us to solve this crisis in a natural way.

During my journey through my education in Boulder, I was introduced to people who appreciated crystals in a different way than I had. They fascinated me with their apparent ability to connect with these small, natural wonders on some deep level. These very spiritual people, my niece included, taught me that there were many ways to resonate with and experience the lure of crystals. I look forward to learning more from those who are willing to share what they know.

My wife of over 30 years has enjoyed wearing crystals for their natural beauty. Every day begins with a decision: Which of her crystals best suits her mood? Her Native American heritage and spirituality are an exceptionally strong force within her. “Pay-dah” (her Lakota name) is a very creative and artistic person, and her Native American art is tastefully displayed throughout our home.

Our daughter possesses a very unique ability to connect with aspects of both earth science and non-earthly energies. I don’t understand it, but I have witnessed it. Mind blown.
